On Tuesday, April 22, Governor Masuzoe attended the second meeting of the coordination council for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
At the opening of the meeting, the governor said, “We should see the 2020 Games as a prime opportunity to tackle the issues faced by our city head-on.” He also reminded those in attendance of the need to continue to strongly support the recovery of areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, stating that “by hosting the Games, we will demonstrate to the rest of the world how those areas have recovered.” The governor went on to say, “Although there are numerous issues to be resolved, I hope the bureaus of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will join forces and immediately address those issues, so that we can show our true strength to the world.”
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government established the council to smoothly facilitate preparation across all bureaus for the 2020 Games.
