On Friday, October 10, the governor attended the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The celebration, which was held on the same historic day that the Opening Ceremony of the 1964 Olympic and Paralympic Games was held 50 years ago, was attended by His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince. In addition, Prime Minister Abe, IOC representatives, and a number of athletes from Japan and abroad who participated in the 1964 Games were invited to attend.
At the ceremony, the governor gave an address as the head of the host city, saying that for a great many Japanese people, the Tokyo 1964 Games were the symbol of the recovery of post-war Japan. He further expressed his commitment to carry forward every possible preparation and provide the finest hospitality to visitors from around the world, to make the second Olympic Games held in Tokyo the greatest the world has ever seen.
