On Friday, October 10, the governor attended the opening ceremony for Taste of Tokyo 2014, an event held along Naka-dori and Gyoko-dori streets in Tokyo’s Marunouchi district.
In his opening address, the governor said that he would like people to get to know Tokyo better. Tokyo has mountains, it has the sea; in fact, Tokyo is a place that has everything. He expressed his hopes that visitors to Tokyo would, by all means, have the chance to sample the rich variety of foods available in Tokyo.
As Tokyo moves toward the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Taste of Tokyo 2014 was held to kick off efforts to fully utilize this international area as a space to host events. The event also aimed to promote and spread “Cool Japan” culture globally, including agricultural and marine products locally produced in Tokyo, cuisine incorporating these ingredients, and traditional Japanese crafts.
