International Paralympic Committee President visits the governor

On Thursday, October 16, Sir Philip Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), paid a courtesy call on Governor Masuzoe.

At the meeting, the governor said, "I believe that the Paralympics, the world's biggest sports event for the disabled, is of great significance for promoting public understanding of the disabled as well as for making Tokyo a city friendly to those with disabilities from both structural and non-structural aspects, including barrier-free access. When I was the minister of health, labour and welfare, I started a program for encouraging a "barrier-free" attitude, with the aim of enabling not only infrastructure but society as a whole to support people with disabilities and people needing help. Now, I hope to move the effort forward as the governor of Tokyo. I have the big ambition of staging what will be the best-ever Paralympic Games in 2020. Your kind cooperation will be greatly appreciated."
