On Tuesday, October 21, H.E. Mr. Timothy Hitchins, British Ambassador to Japan, paid a courtesy call on Governor Masuzoe.
At the meeting, the governor said, “Next week, I will be visiting the UK where I will meet with the Mayor of London, give a lecture at Chatham House, and visit the City to speak with professionals from the financial world. I greatly appreciate all of your assistance. Currently, we are reviewing the venue plan for the 2020 Games. I understand that London undertook a similar review. As there are also many positive legacies from the London Games such as Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, I hope to learn a lot from London’s experience. London 2012 was not only a success in the area of sports, but was also a great success in the area of culture. Since we are making similar preparations, I hope to learn more about this aspect as well. In addition, since the 2012 Games, London has maintained its top position in various global city rankings. The end of the Games did not signify an end to progress, with London growing even more after the Games. I hope to learn from London from this perspective as well.”
