On Thursday, November 6, the governor met with Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga to call for stricter enforcement efforts to stop foreign fishing vessels from conducting illegal operations.
Following the meeting, the governor talked to members of the press, explaining that he had made an official request to Prime Minister Abe, asking that the Japanese government unite in its efforts to more stringently crack down on illegal, unauthorized operations by Chinese fishing vessels in the seas around Tokyo's Ogasawara and Izu islands. He also mentioned that he called upon the Charges d'Affaires ad interim of the People's Republic of China to Japan to convey his request to the Chinese government to promptly and appropriately take action regarding this issue.
