Governor welcomes Denmark’s Crown Prince and Crown Princess

On Friday, March 27, Governor Masuzoe welcomed Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who were on their visit to Japan, and showed them the planned venue sites for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games from a boat.

After boarding the boat at Hinode Pier, the governor, along with Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly President Takashima and Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games COO Nunomura, gave an explanation on the progress of venue construction and other Games preparations to the Crown Prince, who is a member of the International Olympic Committee.

At a regular press conference later on the same day, Governor Masuzoe said, “The Crown Prince told me that it was great that he was able to see the steady progress of the 2020 Games preparations in person. He also said he was certain that the Tokyo 2020 Games would be successful. The Crown Prince came to Japan in 2011 to show sympathy with people affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. I expressed our gratitude for his visit, which greatly encouraged the Japanese people. I told him that when we host the 2020 Games, rather than only showcasing Tokyo, we want to show the world that the disaster-hit areas have recovered, and he expressed his support. The weather was splendid, and we were able to show him the attractions of the Tokyo waterfront, as well as how the preparations for the Games are progressing steadily. It would be our pleasure if the Crown Prince and Princess could convey the allure of Tokyo to the world.”
