On Friday, May 1, Governor Masuzoe toured two events being held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Building’s South Observation Deck.

At the “The Era of the Enryokan” panel exhibit, the governor received an explanation regarding the time of the Enryokan, Japan’s first modern state guesthouse, as he toured the displays, viewing a record of parties held and models recreating dishes served at a banquet at the Enryokan.

The second event visited by the governor was the Local Specialties Fair—the first event to feature specialty items from all 47 of Japan’s prefectures in one location. Through the distribution of pamphlets and introduction of promotional videos on tourist attractions across the country, the fair allowed visitors to experience the beauty of all of Japan without ever leaving Tokyo. Staff capable of speaking foreign languages (English, Chinese, and Korean) were also stationed at the event to assist foreign tourists. In addition, tablet computers offering product explanations in several languages were set up to provide multilingual support. The governor toured the shops selling specialty items from each prefecture and inspected the multilingual support efforts, including the tablet computers.
