On Sunday, October 4, Governor Masuzoe met with French Prime Minister Manuel Valls.
At the meeting, the governor said, “I will be visiting Paris at the end of October for the first time in 25 years as Governor of Tokyo. As Tokyo and Paris will be concluding cooperative relationships in many fields including environment, culture, sports and tourism, I hope we will receive the support of the French government. France will be hosting COP21 (2015 Paris Climate Change Conference) at the end of November in Paris. Tokyo is also working actively to address environmental issues, and is taking the lead over the national government in implementing measures such as striving to realize a hydrogen society, conserving energy, and increasing the use of renewable energies.”
Speaking to the press after the meeting, the governor said, “I am pleased that we were able to have a very friendly talk. I believe that relationships between Japan and France, and Tokyo and Paris, will grow even closer.”
