Tokyo Caravan Public Workshop

On Saturday, October 10, Governor Masuzoe attended the Tokyo Caravan Public Workshop.

Tokyo Caravan is a new movement to convey culture proposed by Hideki Noda, a playwright, director, and actor, who also serves as Art Director for the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. The program gathers a range of diverse artists and art forms, and will feature performances, including some at outdoor venues. The Tokyo 2020 Games cultural program will run for the four years following the Rio 2016 Games. At this installment of the series of events that will lead into the cultural program, Hideki Noda, along with sculptor Kohei Nawa, modern artist Katsuhiko Hibino, and other supporters of the program, revealed the process that goes into creating various types of performances.

After watching the presentation, the Governor commented, “It is wonderful to see new, young talent promote art from an event like this in Tokyo. The spectators also joined in, creating the atmosphere for the performances. I believe that this is what culture is all about. With respect to the development of this program, since it is a ‘caravan,’ the performance will not be confined to just one stage. Rather, it can be loaded on to a truck and quickly set up in a park somewhere or even travel the world. I think that this will become a new medium to promote the arts, and I intend to support this project as much as possible.”
