The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) has declared its commitment to the Compact of Mayors, the world’s largest coalition of cities addressing climate change.
The Compact of Mayors was launched in September 2014, under the leadership of C401, ICLEI2 and other related organizations, with the aim of securing the successful outcome of COP21 (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change 21st Conference of the Parties), which will take place in Paris next month.
Cities in the Compact pledge to make public such information as the targets they have set for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and their strategic action plans, and to make annual progress reports.
Through the Compact of Mayors, TMG will continue actively to pursue solutions to the global issue of climate change, by sharing with other large cities around the world the experience and know-how gained through its pioneering initiatives such as the “Tokyo Cap-and-Trade Program.”
To combat climate change through collaboration among the world’s cities, which together are responsible for 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
