Japan’s biggest international aerospace industry exhibition

Tokyo Metropolitan Aviation Network to exhibit, comprising a range of Tokyo’s aerospace SMEs

The Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies and Tokyo Big Sight Inc. will host the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition (JA2016) at Tokyo Big Sight from October 12 (Wed) to October 15 (Sat).

This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the event. Held in Tokyo which is at the heart of Asia’s economic activity, JA2016 will be the largest exhibition to date with 792 organizations exhibiting in 1,267 booths over a floor space of 31,000 square meters.

With cooperation from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Aviation Network (TMAN) will exhibit for the first time. The network is made up of manufacturing companies in the Tokyo area which have world leading technologies and expertise.

This exhibition aims to support and promote the industry by bringing together related organizations in Japan and overseas and disseminating the latest news and information.

In addition, lectures and joint seminars will provide an opportunity to share information and foster trade and to promote and raise awareness of the aerospace industry among citizens and young people. We hope to welcome many people from within the industry as well as the general public.

Overseas companies include: Airbus Group, The Boeing Company, Arianespace, Bell Helicopter Textron, Elbit Systems, Honeywell, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Thales.
The U.S. Pavilion will include General Atomics, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins and Rolls Royce. There will also be pavilions from France, the U.K., India and Taiwan. The Canadian and Czech embassies will also have booths.

Exhibition area for local governments, companies and organizations from around Japan

Local governments and other organizations, regional clusters and companies will exhibit as well as TMAN with cooperation from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The area will be laid out based on a map of Japan to help attract visitors and make the most of the exhibit.

ATLA and Japan Air Self-Defense Force exhibit

Japan’s Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) which was established in October 2015 will have an exhibition stand and will also be supporting the exhibits of Japanese SMEs. ATLA and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force will be communicating with representatives from overseas organizations at their booths.

Helicopter and mock-ups of other craft on display

Airbus Helicopters, Bell Helicopter Textron, Kaigai Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries will display actual helicopters and mock-ups and Lockheed Martin will display an F-35 mock-up in the outdoor exhibition area.

Seminars, Symposiums and Public Events

There will be a total of 20 sessions, including keynote speeches, special lectures and technical and joint seminars with over 50 speakers who are leading figures of Japanese and foreign businesses and other related organizations.

On October 12, there will be six sessions including a special lecture from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and a keynote speech from ATLA about the organization’s first year in operation and future plans.

From October 13-14, there will be a program aimed at experts in the defense and aerospace industries with specialist seminars covering various topics including Japan’s passenger airliner and expectations surrounding it, the possibilities for space exploration and industrial use of satellite technology, developing the complete aircraft and the future of the aviation industry, and a seminar focusing on defense.

Note: There are various different kinds of seminar and symposium. For Group 1 seminars and symposiums, you must register to enter the exhibition. For Group 2 seminars and symposiums, no registration is needed. There are also joint seminars held by relevant government bodies and other organizations.

October 15 Public Events

To stimulate interest among younger generations, especially women and students, various events are planned including a lecture by astronaut Naoko Yamazaki and an event organized by Sorajo and the Japan Rocket Society along with the Space Development Forum (SDF) of university students as well as a video message from JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi. The “People’s Forum” of the Gas Turbine Society of Japan, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines will host events and sell souvenirs.
There will be a concert performed by the Air Self-Defense Force Central Band, a demonstration by the Blue Impulse Jr. motorbike team, and a drill performed by flying students. In the outdoor exhibition area there will be a rescue helicopter and fire engine on display.
