Tokyo is promoting its attractions through the works of two young artists and other events at a department store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ”ISETAN The Japan Store & TOKYO” is being held at Isetan’s newest Kuala Lumpur store, which opened on October 27.
This is a joint project between the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd., and is part of TMG’s drive to attract more visitors from overseas by carrying out tourism promotion activities outside Japan, in collaboration with private businesses in Tokyo. Another joint initiative with the globally active department store operator is scheduled to take place in Paris.

Ly
Based in Tokyo, Ly has exhibited her works in many places in and outside Japan, including Paris, Bangkok, and Los Angeles. Primarily motivated by anger, the up-and-coming artist depicts landscapes and monsters she has created in her mind since she was a young girl. Her grayscale paintings, including murals, describe LUV, a monster she created, in a skate park, woods, and other imaginary settings. The exhibition in Kuala Lumpur features landscapes of her world and LUV’s home, to present how Ly, who was born and raised in Tokyo, perceives her hometown.
