Promotional videos released to attract more tourists to Tokyo’s countryside and islands

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) has released videos that publicize in Japanese and English the diverse attractions of Tokyo’s Tama area and islands. This is part of the TMG efforts to boost PR activities through various channels to attract more travelers from within Japan and abroad to the countryside of Tokyo as we approach 2020.

Content

The videos introduce the attractions of the western part of the Tama area and Tokyo’s islands by featuring what visitors can experience in the countryside, which differs greatly from the typical urban image of Tokyo, as well as its metropolitan cityscapes. The videos have been grouped into the following five categories.

• Wonders:
  Magnificent nature—the undiscovered face of Tokyo
• Activities:
  Kayaking, trekking, surfing and other activities available
• Retro Culture:
  Traditional festivals and other cultural highlights, and retro districts
• Local Food:
  Cuisine using ingredients from the rich natural environment of the areas
• Relaxation:
  “Onsen” hot springs, waterfalls, and other relaxing spots

*There are 120-second, 30-second, and 15-second videos for each category.
The 120-second versions come with English audio commentary.

• Western part of Tama area:
  Ome City, Fussa City, Hamura City, Akiruno City, Mizuho Town, Hinode Town, Hinohara Village, Okutama Town
• Island area:
  Islands of Oshima, Toshima, Niijima, Shikinejima, Kozushima, Miyakejima, Mikurajima, Hachijojima, Aogashima, Chichijima, Hahajima
