Announcement of the Final Number of Applicants for Tokyo 2020 City Volunteers

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is proud to announce that the final number of applicants for City Volunteers, who will welcome guests and act as the face of the host city for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, reached 36,649 at the closing date of recruitment. TMG accepted applications from Wednesday 26 September, starting at 1:00 p.m. until Friday 21 December, closing at 5:00 p.m.. We would like to thank everyone who applied to the Tokyo 2020 Volunteer Program. For the applicants, notifications about interviews and information sessions from February 2019 will be sequentially sent out in January.

1 Number of Applicants

Total of 36,649 applicants
・60% of applicants are female

2 Number of Recruits

Approximately 20,000* individuals

*A total of 30,000 individuals will become City Volunteers. This includes approximately 10,000 individuals as follows:

• Tokyo Tourism Volunteers and volunteers in Tokyo for the Rugby World Cup 2019^TM, Japan who wish to also volunteer for the Tokyo 2020 Games
• Applicants who receive recommendations from municipalities within Tokyo (approximately 5,000 individuals) and others.

3 Upcoming schedule

Interviews and information sessions will take place from February 2019 as follows.

4 Other

The number of applicants for Games Volunteers reached 186,101 as announced by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games as of today, Wednesday 26 December 2018.
