Based on the Tokyo Metropolitan Landscape Ordinance, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) designates historically valuable structures excluding cultural properties that are, in principle, over 50 years old and significantly important in terms of Tokyo’s cityscapes as “architectural structures of historic value.” The TMG has newly designated Nikkobashi Bridge as an architectural structure of historical value.
This new addition brings the total number of the historically valuable architectural structures designated by the TMG to 96.
Nikkobashi Bridge
Brick and RC arch bridge; bridge length about 16 meters; bridge width 9.20 meters
5004 Kumagawa, Fussa City
1891, 1950 (widening work completed)
This is the first time for a brick bridge to be designated.

The TMG has released the Guidelines for Preservation of Historic Landscapes to request the due consideration of those who carry out construction and other such acts within a 100-meter radius of a TMG-designated architectural structure of historical value and other historic landscape sites.
This project is part of the “Action Plan for 2020.”
