Tokyo COVID-19 Mimamori Service Begins

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) reopened a number of metropolitan facilities on June 1, including museums and libraries. Suitable measures are being taken to prevent the spread of disease based on the “Roadmap to Overcoming COVID-19.”

To ensure the health and safety of visitors to metropolitan facilities, the “Tokyo COVID-19 Mimamori* Service” has been devised with the aim of preventing the spread of COVID-19.
The service will operate as described below.
* “Mimamori” means “watching over” in Japanese.

The service is linked to efforts to discuss and reduce the risk of being infected in the city at an early stage, establishing a “new normal” and strengthening Tokyo’s preparations for a possible second wave of infections. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in preventing the spread of disease when you visit these facilities.

1 Outline

The service aims to quickly provide information to users of metropolitan facilities which have experienced a cluster of outbreaks using facilities’ visitor records. You can use the service without downloading an app, either with an email address or LINE’s “COVID-19 Personal Support” feature. Simply scan the QR code* displayed at venue entrances you’re your smartphone. Any notifications will come to your email address or LINE account, depending on which service you chose. 2 Start date and operating period

The service launched on June 12 and will continue to expand.
The service will end when concern regarding the disease has lessened, for example following the development of an effective treatment or vaccine.

3 Applicable facilities (tentative)

Metropolitan cultural facilities, sports centers, gardens, zoos, libraries, etc. (to be expanded)

The registration and notification processes

If there is a cluster outbreak, the risk of infection will be ascertained quickly and action will be taken to stop the spread of infection.
