Smoking Prohibited Within Tokyo Metropolitan Gardens

Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association (Executive director: Mr. Katsuhiko Sano) manages Tokyo’s metropolitan gardens, which attract over three million visitors every year. The gardens are important cultural assets and tourist destinations that represent Tokyo.

Efforts have been made at Tokyo metropolitan gardens to prevent exposure to second-hand smoke by designating areas where smoking is permitted. However, Tokyo Metropolitan Government passed the Ordinance to Prevent Exposure to Second-Hand Smoke in April 2020, resulting in increased requests for metropolitan gardens to be made smoke-free. To prevent exposure to second-hand smoke, and to maintain the high-quality service environment facilities with paid entry are required to provide, smoking will be completely prohibited in areas with an admission charge from Saturday, August 1, 2020.
