Announcement of public use of new permanent venues ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Games (Part 3)

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is pleased to announce the opening dates of new permanent venues for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 for public use, following the postponement of the Games. The venues will be open to the public to the extent that public usage does not interfere with the delivery of and preparations for the Games. Venues will open for public use sequentially, once consultations with the relevant organisations have concluded and safety measures for temporary overlays have been implemented. At this time, the public usage of facilities at the Sea Forest Waterway has been expanded, as detailed below.

1.Venues

Sea Forest Waterway (3-6-44 Uminomori, Koto-ku, Tokyo)
Sports: Canoe Sprint, Rowing (Olympic Games) / Canoe, Rowing (Paralympic Games)

2.Activities and services offered

  1. Practice use by sports federations
  2. For use by residents of Tokyo:
    Rowing and canoe lessons and facility tours, etc. for residents of Tokyo are set to be offered. Further information will be announced at a later date in consideration of the novel coronavirus situation.
  3. For use by non-sports-related groups: updated
    Taking advantage of its location close to the Tokyo Gate Bridge, applications can be made to use the facility for miscellaneous purposes, such as cultural activities (including audience-free live performances, filming movies, etc.).

3.Schedule and how to use the facilities

  1. Practice use by sports federations
  2. For use by residents of Tokyo:
    Further information will be announced at a later date in consideration of the novel coronavirus situation.
  3. For use by non-sports-related groups: updated
    Monday 7 September to Monday 28 December 2020
    Access the facility operator’s website for information on how to use the facilities. (Further details on making an application for exclusive use are available on the website from today, 2 September 2020.)
    Contact the facility operator by phone in advance to make an application.

4.Other

  • Please note that sufficient infection control measures are being taken at each venue based on the TMG’s “Roadmap to Overcoming COVID-19 – to build a society where the ‘new normal’ is firmly established”.
    We would like to ask all users for their cooperation with measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure safety.
  • In order to manage the temporary overlays for the Tokyo 2020 Games, as well as ensure the safety of users, each venue may have restrictions with respect to the area that may be used and its usage.
  • The public use of venues may be suspended in the future depending on the novel coronavirus situation.
