Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games One Year Anniversary Event
International Wheelchair Basketball Exhibition Matches to be held!
- Enjoy the Excitement of Tokyo 2020 again!! -

We are pleased to announce the details, including about events and guests, of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games One Year Anniversary Event to be held on August 24 2022 that is a part of "Tokyo 2020 Games One Year Anniversary -TOKYO FORWARD-".
The event will feature not only a commemorative ceremony with Inagaki Goro, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, and Katori Shingo, who are IPC Special Ambassadors, as special guests, but also international wheelchair basketball exhibition matches with overseas teams.
Moreover, August and September, the months when the Paralympic Games were held, have been designated as "Tokyo Parasports Month", and we will hold various commemorative events centered around the first anniversary event of Tokyo 2020 to help realize an inclusive society. We hope everyone will participate!
Information about media coverage will be announced at a later date.

    (The ceremony will celebrate the first anniversary of the Paralympics Games, designation of Japan Paralympic Day*, as well as the reopening of Ariake Arena.)
  • Performance by music artist, etc.
  • Competition demonstrations
  • Exhibit of athletic equipment used in Tokyo 2020 etc.

* The JPC has designated August 24 as the anniversary of the Paralympic Games in Japan.

They will liven up the exhibition match as TMG parasport and barrier-free ambassadors.

They will convey the appeal of wheelchair basketball through competition demonstrations, etc.

In addition to appearing at the commemorative ceremony as IPC Special Ambassadors, they will also liven up the venue throughout Part 2 of the event, including the exhibition match and the closing ceremony.

How to Participate

  • Advance application: Free *Applications will be accepted from Friday July 1.
    • Number of entries
      About 8,000 each for Parts 1 and 2 (planned)
      A lottery will be held if there are too many applicants.
      There are also priority quotas for children.
    • Schedule
      First round entries Friday July 1 – Monday July 25
      Second round entries Early August

Those unable to attend the event can enjoy it remotely via online video streams from multiple angles. A realistic live viewing will be held at the Fuchu City Local Forest Museum’s planetarium (separate application will be announced later) and two special support schools in Tokyo using the VR Theater, which is a legacy of Tokyo 2020.

4) Month Initiatives

  • Mini parasport experiences (about 10 days) and mini exhibitions of Tokyo 2020 archived materials (about 18 days) in commercial facilities, office buildings, and other locations throughout Tokyo.
  • Total of about 100 experience and learning programs for children (including online) together with the Nippon Foundation Paralympic Support Center.
