Making Tokyo the World’s Best City
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is currently devoting its energies to advancing preparations for two global events, the Rugby World Cup 2019 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. To consider these two sporting events as inseparable and ensure their successful delivery will lead to the dynamic development of Tokyo and Japan into the future.
My goal beyond 2020 is to realize a more fulfilling, mature society. To this end, we will firmly lay down the most important cornerstore in the lives of our residents—safety and security—and appropriately deal with changes of the age, such as globalization and a graying and shrinking population. To maximize the legacy of the Games, we will also work to achieve an eco-friendly hydrogen energy society, ensure further development of Tokyo as a tourist destination, firmly establish a culture of volunteerism, and promote the arts and culture. And by creating more time for personal pursuits in daily life through promotion of work-life balance and other initiatives, I wish to build a more pleasant and enjoyable city where the residents can lead truly fulfilling lives.
Working hand in hand with you, I wish to take Tokyo to further heights and make it the “best city in the world”—one that we can be proud of.
Thank you very much for your cooperation and support.
Yoichi Masuzoe
Governor of Tokyo
