Office of Metropolitan Hospital Management
Metropolitan hospitals have begun operating ambulances which carry doctors (doctor cars) in cooperation with the Tokyo Fire Department. The service aims to improve patient outcomes in emergency care by having a doctor directly examine and treat patients on scene. The service will allow metropolitan hospitals to more effectively make use of the resources available, and improve the local emergency medical service.
Tokyo DMAT cars will be used for the service as long as that does not conflict with other activities of Tokyo DMAT (disaster medical assistance team).
A doctor goes into the field in an ambulance from the hospital and examines and treats patients on scene. For a patient with a highly urgent or severe case, the doctor rides along in the ambulance that has come from the fire department to treat the patient en route to the nearest hospital.
Within a radius of around 3 kilometers from the hospital
