On January 23, the awards ceremony for the Gender-based “Unconscious Bias” Video Contest was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, where four submissions were presented with an Excellence Award by Governor Koike. The contest was held between September and December of last year, and called on contestants to create a 15-second video based on four episodes about gender-based unconscious bias.
Sugiura Sakiko, who pointed out her biases about the roles of men and women in housework and work in a video with heartwarming illustrations, commented, “It is a difficult topic to explain to people. I hope that by conveying it with cute illustrations, it will inspire everyone to think about their biases.”
Governor Koike said, “I want to aim for a society where people can live their lives as they wish. I hope that these kinds of videos will turn biases into awareness.”
The four award-winning films will be broadcast and screened as official commercials for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in movie theaters and street vision screens.
