On August 24, 2021, the Paralympic Torch Relay Arrival Ceremony was held in Tokyo at Yoyogi Park Athletics Stadium (Shibuya City). After Governor Koike lit the torch, a group of runners from the FC Tokyo Aozora Soccer School went around the venue, followed by the final runners in Tokyo, namely Goro Inagaki, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Shingo Katori, who are special goodwill ambassadors of the International Paralympic Committee, and the torch was placed in the lantern.
Mr. Inagaki said, “I felt the weight of responsibility in carrying the torch, which is filled with the thoughts and hopes of so many people, and I'm relieved to have safely finished running.” Then, Mr. Kusanagi said, “I was surprised how heavy the torch was, and I was happy to be able to run while savoring each step.” Following this, Mr. Katori said, “I've been cheering for a long time, and I'm paying attention to all games. Since spectators are not allowed, I want to keep rooting at home.”
When the ceremony ended at around 2:00 p.m., the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Blue Impulse acrobatic flight team flew over the National Stadium for the Paralympic Games’ opening ceremony.
