There are times when it would be convenient to have a bicycle to go somewhere a bit far from a train station. You can avoid traffic with bicycles, and it is healthier and more environmentally friendly.
TMG has been promoting the spread of bicycle sharing in cooperation with local municipalities. More and more people are using this means of transportation recently to avoid the three Cs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the Bicycle User Survey conducted by the Bureau of Urban Development in November 2020, the “expansion of available areas” was the most common request to improve bicycle sharing.
While there is a need for this type of service, various issues have arisen regarding the wide use of bicycle sharing in Tokyo, such as the difficulty in securing land for ports.
Therefore, a project to promote cooperation between businesses and to verify operation methods for multiple businesses to jointly use port sites began in the Nishi-Shinjuku area on November 22. (Ports will be installed at the Keio Plaza Hotel, Odakyu Hotel Century Southern Tower, and Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 2)
The project supervisor said, “TMG will take the lead in verifying that the same port sites can be shared and used by each business. If it works, rules can be made. In addition, we want to increase the number of users by improving convenience by working with multiple operators.”

Bicycles can be rented and returned at any of the cycle ports located within a certain area, and can be returned to a cycle port different from the one where they were rented.
